Altrusa has some immediate goals for this year: We've been working with Holt International and the Nanchang SWI, to build a Group Home Complex on the orphanage grounds. The complex houses 36 older orphanage children and youth, overseen by 6 house-parent couples in 6 apartment homes. This complex brings us another step closer to creating a friendly neighborhood atmosphere within the orphanage grounds. |

We've found foster care sponsorships for seven older and special needs kids in the Yingtan orphanage. We've also found loving foster care families through Holt International for 10 Hep B positive kids and Amity Foundation foster homes for 24 additional special needs kids in Nanchang. More... And, we found foster care sponsors for 20 healthy infants in Ruijin. Hugging Grannies are crucial to the children's well-being in understaffed orphanages. We need to raise funds to sponsor 53 Hugging Grannies each year. And, we need to raise funds to cover travel expenses for the Grannies, so that they can attend our 2006 Hugging Granny Conference. We continue to work toward finding medical assistance for 67 beautiful children who have tested positive for the Hepatitis B virus in the Nanchang, Jiujiang and Fuzhou (Linchuan) orphanages and an additional 23 children in foster care throughout the province. We've already administered the vaccine to foster families who've opened up their hearts and homes to some of these children. We've also been raising funds to provide heart surgeries for children with congenital heart disease in the orphanages in the Jiangxi province. Physical rehabilitation equipment has been purchased for a number of orphanages, including the new medical building at the Jiujiang orphanage. Children afflicted with diseases like polio need this equipment, while they're still young enough for it to do them any good. Many of our Hugging Grannies are retired medical professionals, who do physical rehabilitation work with the children.
